The names of several prominent attorneys can be found throughout the list issued yesterday of more than 400 volunteers for Governor-elect Tom Corbett’s transition team.
Corbett had already announced Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney CEO Jack Barbour and Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young Chairman Bill Sasso as two of his three co-chairs of the overall transition team. And Cozen O’Connor attorney Charlie Kopp will serve as the legal counsel.
In a press release issued Tuesday, Corbett announced the leaders and members of 17 separate transition committees, each focused on a specific area of state government.
Duane Morris Chairman John Soroko is a member of the banking transition team, along with attorneys Val DiGiorgio of Stradley Ronon, Chuck Ferry of Rhoads & Sinon and Laurie Kennedy of Kennedy PC Law Offices.
Attorney Ron Henry, a consultant with Capitol Strategies Group, will chair the budget pensions and revenue committee. Other attorneys on that committee include Jerome Cochran, general counsel of the University of Pittsburgh, and Steve Moore, chairman of McNees Wallace & Nurick.
Blank Rome Co-Chairman Alan J. Hoffman will sit on the Commonwealth committee, which focuses on the Office of Administration and Department of General Services. Other attorneys on that team include Fred D'Angelo of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, Bob DeSousa of Dethlefs-Pykosh Law Group and Roy Powell of Jones Day.
Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico will co-chair the criminal justice committee. He will be joined by Ballard Spahr’s Kenya Mann and Rick Sheetz, executive deputy attorney general of the Criminal Law Division of the Office of Attorney General.
Mike Cortez, general counsel of Sheetz Inc. will serve on the economic development committee, along with Roger Richards of Richards Associates.
Amy Forester of Saul Ewing, Pat O’Connor of Cozen O’Connor, Richard Sand of Sand & Saidel, Dave Schulik of Shulick Law Offices and Carl Singley of Ciardi Ciardi & Astin will serve on the education committee.
McNees Wallace Managing Partner David Kleppinger will serve as chairman of the energy and environment committee. Attorneys Brian Clark of Buchanan Ingersoll, Pete Gleason of K&L Gates and Philadelphia Works Chief Legal Officer John Giordano will also serve on the committee.
Todd Shamash, senior counsel of Jefferson Health Systems, will co-lead the health and aging committee. Chris Cavalieri, general counsel of Thomas Jefferson University, John Kennedy of Kennedy PC Law Offices, and Joyce O’Brien of the Office of Attorney General will also serve on the committee. Shamash will sit on the insurance committee as well, along with Saul Ewing partner Michael Consedine.
Dave Hackett of Buchanan Ingersoll and Bob Shoop of Thorp Reed & Armstrong are on the labor and workforce development committee. Ira Weiss of Weiss Law Offices is on the local government committee.
Blank Rome Managing Partner Carl Buchholz will serve as one of the co-chairman of the public safety committee. Crawford County District Attorney Francis Schultz and Ron Stanko, chief deputy attorney general in the Regulatory Compliance & Intelligence section of the Office of Attorney General are also on the committee.
Oberymayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel partner Lawrence Tabas is chairman of the state committee. He is joined on the committee by attorneys Tom Ellis of Duane Morris and Dauphin County Chief Public Defender Ken Rapp. Ellis is also on the transportation and infrastructure committee along with McNees Wallace attorney Charles Courtney.
Jack Kane of Kelley & Murphy and Lawrence Tabas of Obermayer Rebmann are on the welfare committee.
A number of government relations professionals from Duane Morris, Buchanan Ingersoll and Stevens & Lee are also on some of the committees.
